What am I seeing when I see a dark shadow around or near an inanimate object?

I see these shadows near or around street lamps, cars, billboards, and sometimes in my home ramdomly. They seem to swoosh past and disappear. I can't find anything online to tell me what I might be seeing. Other people around me don't see them.

Well, I agree with a lot of the others when they said it could be a trick of your eyes..there may be something physically wrong with them, or perhaps they are just tired.

Then again you may actually be seeing some type of spirits. Believe it or not, the supernatural world is just as real as the natural world. I have actually seen an evil spirit myself once, and it sounded a bit like the things you described. I am a very logical person, too, and would not be the type to make something like this up. I was in my early teens laying on my bed looking into my parents' room across the hall when I saw a flash in their window and a tall, stooped, shadowy figure came slinking out and disappeared into the hall. Freaked me out big-time and I ran crying into the kitchen where my mom was. Of course she didn't believe me and said it was probably my dad or something, but he was in another part of the house. After a while she realized that I was being serious, and let me sleep with the lights on for the night.

My brother also saw a spirit at my grandparents' farmhouse that was built in 1855. He woke up in the middle of the night feeling very cold and he saw a white lady standing outside of the storage room where a ton of antiques and old appliances are kept. He said she was really pretty, and had long wavy hair that hung down to her waist. We thought he was making it up for a while, but we did some research on the history of the house and discovered that a young woman with long, wavy red hair had died there during childbirth --the bed frame was being stored in that room. Pretty freaky, huh?

You see, terris, you might not be as crazy as you think. :-)

Several non-paranormal hypothesis for the phenomena of shadow people exist, including optical illusions, or hallucinations brought on by the physiological/psychological circumstances of the witnesses.

In most instances, witnesses report seeing Shadow People in the peripheral areas of their vision. This areas of vision is linked to the areas of the brain that recognizes patterns, however it provide less detail to the brain than Macula (Center-forward) vision. This can lead to a condition know as Pareidolia, in which the brain incorrectly interprets random patterns of light/shadow or texture as being familiar patterns[1] such as faces and human forms.
The same condition can also be observed in Macula vision in low light conditions, or when viewing a complex but random image. A common example would be perceiving a shadow, thrown by an item of furniture in a darkened room, as being a person.

There are negitive energy patterns that exist , there are many different names for them. Sheild yourself with gold and white light and place a mirror on top of that all the time where ever you go. Intent it to be with you all ways.

Have your eyes checked. I keep my skeptic hat on most times, and only think its something "odd", when I can't explain it with science.

If it's not something wrong with your eyes, then it might just be a random non-physical entity just hanging around. Usually, as soon as they notice that you can see them, they run away. Most are harmless. But if you are concerned, then look online for psychic self defence, and shielding.

This will keep them away. I don't know what they are without being there but I don't like that they are dark. So protect yourself and move one.

If you have "floaters" in your eye (dead cells floating about), light will reflect on them randomly depending on the position of the floaters.
It happens with shifty contacts or bumped eye glass to.
Like a prism effect.

what the heck is inanimate?i have no idea what you are trying to say.please be a little more specific.as far as the black spirit that is around you,that is a demon of some sort.i am a witch and i should know.

It could be shadow people, they are merely watchers. It is also could be light refractions and a trick of a mind.
