Well, I'm one of those SW Freaks, but not everyone loves it. Most other think
1.) Lot of cool Sci-Fi futuristic action
2.) Who doesn't love lightsabers?
3.) Most women/girls like it because they think Anakin is cute or part of the romance... puh-leeze, he's better looking with his Darth Vader suit.
4.) The creatures and characters look awesome!
5.) One of the greatest graphic and setting designs ever, that George Lucas put so much effort on.
5.) Plus, it's been around for awhile, everyone has gotta catch on.
It's the whole enchilada!
I like SW for most of the reasons above, but I mostly love it for one of its hidden messages: You have to learn to let go of your loved ones, you must learn to understand that you should move on, and you shan't dwell too long on something from the past, they'll never come back, no matter how much you love them. Sure it sounds a little corny the way I explained it, but it's only true.

I only like Revenge of the Sith and Empire Strikes Back.
Ep III because all the Jedi finally get killed off, and Yoda finally gets royally spanked by Sidious.
Empire because it was the BEST written of them all.
EDIT: For inkeye_101 are you totally blind? You need to wipe away all that ink from your eyes.
You're saying Yoda won that fight with Sidious?
Were you even watching the same movie as the rest of the world?
That little old frog was lightning blasted in the face, got thrown down the conference chamber, and ran away with his tail between his legs, without his robes and sword only to be picked up by Senator Organa. Then he goes into hiding where he stays until Luke finds him, and then he dies. That's what you call victory?
What part of that whole exchange convinced you that Yoda had won?
You must have a weird sense for victory when Sidious is the one standing on top of the platform, laughing maniacally, and takes over the galaxy with Vader at his side.

I don't know, but I love all 6 episodes. I was Leah for 3 Halloweens in a row - '79, '80, '81.
And even though were was some bad acting in the last two (ahem, Padme and Anakin), I still love it.

It was a very popular movie when it came out, the story about it being a series made everybody highly engrossed in it, that's all.
Good question though, I was wondering that too:
My friends like it,
my old daycare director liked it,
and countless more loved it.

Because it has everything we want in it! Romance, Action, Death (in an unbloody way) & that's only naming a few things. It's the best set of movies anyone could own no matter what anyone else says!
