I paid $100 for this truck after it was in an accident and after I went over and through it it runs pretty good now, but it loapes (idol's up and down) at random I've tried timing it checking all the vacume lines that are STILL ON IT, and still no luck. If I can't fix this problem I'll go to a throtle body injection system, I have all the parts but I don't really want to do all that work untill I get it looking better. 82 F150, 302 ci, factory motorcraft carb, 4x4.

the only remaining vacume line still connected to the carb is for the vacume advance and it is leak free all other ports are plugged with factory style rubber caps I replaced myself

It could be the carb alright. But if I were you, I would first mark all of the vacuum lines and then pull them off. Then put short pieces of hose plugged with golf tees on each of the nipples. Then you will know for sure if it is the carb or not. Have you checked the vacuum advance? If it is perforated it can cause this. Have you checked the PCV valve? Same thing! The reason I advise you to pull and plug all of the lines is that there could even be leak under your dash causing this problem. And this is especially a good idea on the carb lines. Is the choke vacuum operated on this truck? Could be there.

How about the EGR valve? If the diaphragm is perforated...

And if you go fuel injection, you will have to change all of the fuel lines with high pressure ones, as well as install the high pressure fuel pump. Some fords have two, one in the tank and one on the outside. Be careful. Do you know how to install the computer? And you will need the o2 sensors and the.... Good luck!

sounds like you're on the right track , there should be a vacuum routing diagram underhood somewhere, if they are original or old , replace them, the idle mixture is next, then ,if you have a timing light see that it isn't bouncing around at idle ( a loose timing chain/gear assembly ) if you can get your hands on a vacuum gauge see what that tells you , a leaky brake booster is a hidden source of troubles , good luck

take some wd-40 and spray along the intake and all vacume fittings,even the carb.body(where it bolts to the intake)that is what it sounds like to me,a vacume leake somewhere.does it do it when you pick up the idle,if it smoothes out then thats what it is.

with the motor running...take a can of carb cleaner and start spraying...easy around vac. lines AND around base of the intake manifold. When you hit a vac leak...you'll hear it. That is the most likely prob.

your carborator is prbly dirty. remove from engine. disasemble claen and reassemble , remember to mark hoses, it goes to gether the same way it comes apart , or it could be carb gascet or car computer, have it tested , check the auto gunk yard 4 a new 1 if needed. sue carberator cleaner BUT STAY THE FACK AWAY FROM FLAMES , FARE AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

check for vacuum leaks. if ok try and adjust fuel mixture
