There is no right or wrong answer for this...If you like a deeper sound with more bass behind it...def invest in a Les. If you like something a little more bright and twangy then invest in a Fender. If you are into punk I think either is a good choice. But all other musical variants are better suited for one or the other.

May I make a suggestion? If you're a novice... before you go out and spend 1300$ on a guitar my suggestion is that you look at Epiphone instead of Gibson (they're made by the same people in all the same models) and something a little less pricey than a standard Strat. Now, as for the comparison between the 2... you couldn't have chosen to more opposite ends of the spectrum. The strat will give you more sounds. The neck is more narrow than the "gibson" but the strings are further apart. It also has 1 less high end fret than the Gibson. The neck on a strat usually has a gentle curve where as the Gibson's neck will be almost flat. They play VERY differently. If your a ZepHead... go with the Les Paul. You may want to look at SG's as well. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I prefer the Les Paul but I'm sure many Strat lovers will disagree with me! I find the overall tone better on a Les Paul than a Strat....Strats are too tinny sounding and what's up with the location of the volume knob on a Strat!!

Depends on what kind of music you are playing. I like fender strats for a dirty blues, funk, or a chorus clean sound. A les Paul is perfect for anything and everything. I own a les paul, and it rocks.

FENDER MAKES THE BEST AMPS!!!

They are both top quality.I own a Gibson Sg & a Univox Les Paul. They have a flat neck where as a Fender has a rounded (baseball bat like) neck.

As far as craftsmanship and materials go, the Gibson Les Paul hands down (as evidenced by the price difference).

As far as tone and playabilty go, none is better or worse. Each has its own distinctive voice--single coil vs. humbuckers and all the variants thereof. Most LPs have fixed bridge (better sustain). Most Strats have "floating" bridge( tremolo).

I own both. Love them equally.

Gibsons are meticulously made and cost over a grand.Fenders are used by many pros because they are used to the radius which fits the natural curve of the fingers.Gibsons have great action (strings close to neck)but if you bend strings a little space is needed. So most blues oriented guyssuch as(Hendrix,SRV,Trower,Clapton)play Fender.A lot of Jazz and heavy metal artists (Iommi,Wes Montgomery,Ace Frehley)Play Gibson. There are always exceptions.(Billy Gibbons,B.B.King,Ingvie Malmsteen)
