Maybe!!!
Yes if ur sound card is only stereo and ur new speakers are surround 5.1 6.1 or 7.1!
Anyway after read the other answers, if u listen one of them, i hope that if u buy a surround system, ur card have the multi chanel outputs or a digital output(like optic, coaxial) because if you watch a movie in 5.1 u won't have the center and the satelites sounds! But you will can set your speaker to double the front in the satelites and and all the sound that are the same in the right and the left chanel in the center. But it's not realy surround. Some surround set can add a litle delay in the rear speakers to give you the impressions of the surround sounds
Good luck!\

No. Upgrading your sound card allows your computer to process more audio-related instructions per millisecond. The reason for replacing a sound card is choppy sound or poor sound quality.
Upgrade the speakers first, then if still not pleased with the results, you may want to look into a new sound card. If your looking for very loud music from you computer, you may want to skip the speakers all together, go to Radio Shack and buy a "headphone jack to RCA y connector."; it costs about $3 and will allow you to use RCA cables to plug your computer into your home stereo.
Hope this helps :)
