How many goldies do you have in there? Goldfish need AT LEAST ten gellons per fish. They are very different than other fish.
They are also coldwater fish. Most freshwater fish in stores are tropical- they need warm water.
If you have room. A pair of dojo loaches would be fun. You would have to upgrade your tank soon though. My male dojo is about 9 maybe 10 inches long. There are a few species of danio- the giant- impaticular that prefer cooler temps. They get to be about 4inches long though and you need to keep them at least in a group of three-so= bigger tank.
I would stick with your goldies you have in there. Once they get bigger upgrade to a 55 or 75 then worry about tank mates.
The urine comment isn't completely accurate. Goldies produce a lot of ammonia which stresses other fish.
WOW- in the time it took to write this people told you a lot of lies! The buggy eyed goldfish do not eat other goldfish (anymore then the others do- the eat fry). Plecos and algae eaters CAN NOT be kept with goldfish the eat the slime coat off them leaving them vulnerable to disease and very stressed out. Cory cats, mollies and gupies are all warm water fish- NOT COMPATIBLE!

Yes u can mix them if they are not aggressive. You just need to climatize them befor u dump them in. Put them in a fish baggie with some of thier cold water (enough for them to swim around in and breathe) And place it ontop of the tropical water for at least 20mins. We did the same thing at the aquarium where I work and we had no troubles Actually, I keep goldfish in an 86?F tank as feeders for an American Alligator. They live just fine in that high temperature. So.. if you take into consideration the fact that goldfish are MESSY and can be PUSHY when it comes to food, but you still think they would do okay as a companion for your tropical fish/s, then yes they can live in tropical water. You should not put gold fish with tropical fish. Gold fish are best at room temperature while tropical fish need atleast 74F to 76F. And while the gold fish may survive in a warmer tank it is not comfortable for them. but be careful with the type of species you put the goldfish with. Also make sure you know what type of goldfish you have. Fancy tailed goldies do not swim very quickly and not getting enough to eat if faster fish get most of the food. Smaller fish like platys share similar requirements as fancy tailed goldfish, but if you have a comet goldie or a koi, then they will be happier in an outside pond or a VERY large tank since koi can get over 12 inches long.

Basically just goldfish. Here are some fish that maybe compatible with goldfish:
Rudd.
Tench - silver, green and golden forms are all available.
Minnows, cool water is essential.
Orfe. - different colour forms available.
Weather Loach.
Stone Loach
Other goldfish, Shubunkins and Comets.
One thing you want to be certain is that you don't put tropical fish with your goldfish because they require a heater. Goldfish shouldn't have a water temp. above 70 degrees F. Most tropical fish need it a bit higher. Just make sure you have enough room for them. The rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water.
Hope this helps

Given enough space goldfish is able to grow pretty quickly, therefore you do not want to keep fishes that are too small in size in the same tank with a goldfish. (eg. neon tetra, etc are too small) The goldfish will eat anything small enough to fit into their mouth.
The tankmate for goldfish also need to be well behave, because they are relatively slow swimmer (especially those with longer tails) and some fishes will peck on their tails and body.
I keep corydoras with my goldfishes. I also keep different type of goldfish in the same tank.

Non predatory type fish, there are many to choose from. Keep the water clean and check it often. Goldfish can pollute a tank fairly quickly.

So far, Lynn is the only answerer you should listen to on here - the other people are just plain clueless or don't know how to take care of their fish properly.

Goldfish take up alot of space, not only because they get big but because they produce alot of waste, you really should'nt mix any other fish with them, except maybe a plecostomus or some corys and other varieties of goldfish, there are some cool goldfish out there, like bubble eyes, celestial eye, orandas, lionheads, pearlscales the list goes on, just remember goldfish take a minimum of 5 gallons per fish once full grown.

I have had a 55 gallon goldfish tank.. you can not mix many fish with them.. just different types of goldfish. They do well with the pacaustamis (sucker fish) the benefit of them is they clean the sides of the tank.. goldfish are one of the dirtiest yet hardy fish.

Fantail goldfish, black moors and Koi make great tank mates. Check out the websits below for more tank mates:
