Go with it. Ever since King Bill Gates and the Revenge of the Nerds, Nerd is cool.

I play D&D, read comics and science fiction, love Dragon*Con and the Ren Fest and the Harry Potter movies.
And I'm also pretty and popular and don't let other people do my thinking for me.
Whenever anyone says, "huh. I didn't think you'd be into that." I enjoy that I've expanded their worldview and redefined their image of what a nerd is or what cool is or can be.
The REALLY cool people tell others what "cool" is, not the other way around.

KEEP PLAYING! Ironically you are building social skills that can serve you FOREVER in the Game of Life. You are also most likely making friends that you might keep past highschool. And imagination is one of the best benefits. However, since you are obviously worried about losing your "coolness," it prolly needs to be lost anyways. Being popular with the wrong people is like... putting the wrong kind of gas or oil in your vehicle. Yeah, it might still work kinda sorta until it explodes. Don't worry about becoming obsessed with D&D or any other role playing game. They are great memories, and a safe pasttime that keeps you from exploring more self destructive ones. The whole "Scare" in the 80's was stupid. Unless you are already bordering on the line of sanity, no harm can come to you. It actually takes a LOT of time to study the rules, play creatively, and keep the adventures going without a lull of disinterest. Its a challenge well worth the undertaking.

What should you do? Are you kidding me? Just because you don't fit into this "normal" mold that everyone has said you have to do doesn't mean you are doing something wrong. There's plenty of "non-nerdy" guys out there who are as obsessed with video games as anyone has been with D&D. As long as you don't let go of reality you're fine. Whenever you start hearing voices is when you need to worry. Until then you are completely normal. You have something you enjoy like everything else. D&D just has so much neg conotations people think if you play it then you're crazy. Just know where the line is btwn crazy and sane and you have nothing to worry about.

Accept it. Become one with the nerds.... don't suppress things that interest you because of what others might think. There's no reason you can't be a popular kid AND a level 7 paladin... best of luck geeking out ^_^

Become a Dungeon Master. That's the best part of being into D&D...creating that universe...

There's nothing wrong with embracing your inner geek. If you're uncomfortable with other popular people knowing about your newly-found interests, then don't tell them. When it really comes down to it, who cares what the rest of them think? If you think you're cool, then that's all that matters.

Enjoy the game and use your imagination. The possibilities of where D+D can take you in a fantasy world are endless.

Have fun with it.
