yes, I have had it done. 2 weeks after my due date, but I have heard they only leave it about 3 days now (don't know why the change)
It is perfectly safe, that I can assure you of.
Is it worse than labour? Well, this is how my midwife explained it to me, and it makes sense. Natural labour is a gradual process, and the pains are gradual. Being induced takes the gradual process away, so the pains don't get progressively bad, they start that way. She also told me not throw any ideas of a natural labour out the window, because in 15 years she has never seen anyone induced go natural. that said, I must have come the closest, my epidural didn't work so I survived on gas.
My second labour was natural and not induced and no drugs. I can tell you that the midwife is right, the pains are worse it is just there is no gradual process to the bad pains.
You will be fine. and congrats

The enduced labor is totally safe and its better because people can be dialated at 3 for awhile and waiting for the baby to come. Now you can get it over with quicker. My cousin was almost a week after the due date and when she got enduced she had the baby in an hour.

I was induced with all 3 of my children. It is a little worse than going into labor on your own because the contractions come on faster and are stronger. But, on the plus side, my longest labor was 5 hours and 50 minutes. Not bad at all. Also it is very safe. The doctors and nurses keep a very close eye on you. Good luck

Unless your health is at risk (ie. high blood pressure or diabetes) I would not let them do it. I was 5 days late with my first baby. Late babies are very common with first time pregnancies. The baby will come in its own time, and rushing the process will only put you at risk for more problems. Pitocin is a synthetic hormone that produce un-naturally strong contractions. The pain is often so intense that many women opt for an epidural. Epidurals actually slow down the labor process and limit your muscle control for the pushing phase. Forceps, vacuum deliveries and C-sections are much more likely to happen when labors are induced.
To help your cervix ripen faster, try using evening primrose oil Evening Primrose Oil (EPO). The following is from this website: http://www.bellybelly.com.au/articles/birth/natural-induction-methods
Evening Primrose Oil is another ‘cervix ripening’ method. EPO helps by imitating prostaglandin can be used orally and/or internally.
A usual oral dosage is 2-3 of 500mg capsules daily from 36 weeks. If you are taking EPO internally, you can do this from 36 weeks – simply insert 2-3 capsules directly to the cervix before bed. You might like to wear a pad or liner as it can get messy when you get up.

Mom of 2 - both enduced. The doctors know what they are doing. They will start you out on a slow drip once you are admitted into the hospital. If that doesn't kick it in gear they will break your water. Most women are enduced these days. The only problems you would have is if the baby is early (-38 weeks).
Best of Luck

I was induced at 7 days past my due date. The Dr. used a suppository inserted into my vagina. My water broke within a few hours after that and my labor started. It is save, and it was no worse than natural labor.

Your due date is an estimate. The little rascals show up when they are ready. Inducing labor is nothing but a solution they put in the iv that they open in hour hand to have it ready in case of emergencyThey are called pit drops and it stimulates contractions, nothing more. They usually give them as a matter of course when you do get into labor to speed it along and cause less stress on the baby. They gave me pit drops with both of my deliveries, 34 yr ago and 29 yr ago.

Hiee,
don't worry - induce labor is good. It is actually a wise thing to do to keep the mother & the baby safe. Also, insist on drinking milk of magnesium once you feel that your labor pain is about to shoot very hight. You can consume this milk of magnesium by mixing it with milk & drink it. By doing this, you will get motions & all your focus will shift from the labor pain to motions. Trust me - you will have very smooth painless normal delivery.
All the best - wishing u luck - i am sure you will have a very healthy & a normal baby.

I had my second child 2 weeks past my due date. I wasn't induced because I went into labor the night before they were going to induce. They should wait at least 2 weeks before they induce you UNLESS there is a medical issue going on with either you or the baby that would require them to do induce you sooner. Generally speaking, if a woman is induced her labor is more painful and goes more slowly than if it were to occur naturally. Occasionally it can cause undue stress on the baby. I wouldn't worry yet though. Hang in there. Congratulations and before you know it, you'll be holding him/her in your arms!

There is a sane that is true from what I can tell. Most first time moms are 2 weeks early or 2 weeks late. I was 2 weeks early because my water broke prematurely and I was enduced. It all went fine. If you choose to get an epidural you can have it a 2cm (no one told me that)
