I don't see the flag as a symbol of what we are as a country. It is a nice piece of cuture, by nothing more. It is an idol, and I don't believe in idol worship. If I burn a flag it is to show disapproval of those who would wrap themselves in it to further their own selfish causes. It is time we feel togetherness as a people, and cast asside the need for such trivial sources of national identity.

Burning the American flag is just one of the non-issues that our Congress debated and voted on during this Administration. Do you know how many flags are burnt by citizens every year in the U.S.? No one knows. The number is so very small that no one even knows of anyone who has burned a flag. Yet this Congress wasted taxpayers money debating and voting on this issue. None of them should have been re-elected.

Truth seeker and ssshadii make valid points about the flag being
a symbol and not wasting legislative energy.
Burning a flag as a sign of protest is not only disrespectful to our country, but our troops as well but it is still legal.
Honorable incineration is the ONLY correct way to dispose of a worn-out flag. If you do not want to do this yourself, take it to your local V.F.W. or American Legion and they will take care of it for you.

I can not see any reason to justify burning the flag! It is a symbol of USA and that is like burning the country! I totally agree with you if someone feels that much hate then they should leave and go somewhere else!

Well, I made cupcakes once and put little toothpick flags on the top of them for the Fourth of July. Everyone ate their cupcakes and threw the flags on their paper plate. Then when I burned the garbage, they got burned. Is that what you mean?
P.S. what do you mean "leave the US?" Then that would mean it's not a democracy and the flag would mean nothing. You contradict yourself.

What in the world makes you think that people in the USA burn flags?
As far as flipping the President the bird, I don't see why we wouldn't. He deserves it, for his extensive dishonorable behavior and flag desecration.

While some will argue that this action is protected by freedom of speech, I believe that it shows disrespect not only to our troops (past and present) but to our country as a whole.

There is never, and I mean NEVER, a reason to burn a flag. I do not like bush and the administration. I believe they put us in a bogus war. I am against nearly everything bush stands for...
Saying that, our VALUED SOLDIERS FOUGHT HARD AND DIED FOR THE FLAG. There is NO REASON to burn it. PERIOD....
