Most geometric designs and floral designs originated with the Celts who were active in all the known world long before the Egyptians and most other peoples. For more information go to the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov and post your question(s) there. You will receive so much information it will probably overload your senses. Happy researching!

When I became interested in Islam, muslims were happy to share their faith with me & suggested local mosques to go to. They invited me to their homes, answered my questions & even gave me books about Islam. I don't think it's wise for anybody to go around sharing their faith like some religious people do UNLESS they know someone is open to it, otherwise it will be ineffective and can actually turn people off (ESPECIALLY since most people of the country already have their pre-conceived notions about Islam due to what's fed to them via media, government, etc...). Tarre, it is most foreigners in general (no matter what religion they are or what country they are from) who think that "USA is a land for making money, not spreading truth and goodness". My family are strict and religious Christians (I'm a convert to Islam, praise to Allah) who immigrated to the US for a better life. However, as the years have gone by, the good morals & values of this country has decreased more and more and is talked about all the time. For ex., how many religious people (no matter what their religion is) are fighting against gay marriage but it has been legalized in five states? Even Ms California lost in the Miss America pageant simply because she's opposed to same sex marriage. There are always attempts to get rid of "God" in this country and many other things which has been accepted. God is slipping away little by little in America. Therefore, it's leaving less and less things to like about it except for one thing... and even that we can see America has been having problems. @ Juvegirl: You will find pointing fingers within the religious Christian community (those who actually follow their religion). So, it's not a muslim thing to point fingers, religious Christians do it, too. Have you ever watched Christian programs on Daystar TV, TBN or hear Pat Robertson from the 700 Club? You should hear the things that these pastors say about Islam/Muslims. They even talk badly about America because the good morals are decreasing. When I was a Christian before, I would feel embarassed to hear them. Even if the evil that exists here also exists there, it happens a whole lot less there and the big difference is, it's not accepted there whereas here, it is accepted and just encourages it. @ Juvegirl: It's not being used to any mentality. It's looking at the situation objectively. But I do come from a conservative Christian family who aren't Americans & from a conservative culture. My point is to say that it's not only some Sheikhs that talk badly about America, but also Christian pastors who do that, in addition to talking poorly about Islam/Muslims.

Those designs are a response to the Koranic prohibition on the depiction of people in art.
