As a child of musicians I started playing guitar around 14 or so , I saw EVH play in Bridgeport Conn. before Ted Nugent in like '78... What I saw inspired me to want to play the instument . I have listened to alot , for my generation , you probably have aready decided you dont like old crud or if its not new , it sucks .. I hope not .Thinking that way will limit your options . Steve Vai is an amazing musician , there is alot to comprehend in his music ." Black Light Syndrome" : Terry Bozio , Tony Levin , Steve Stevens ." Liquid Tension" : John Patrucci is the guitarist , played w/ the "G3" tour alot , w/ Vai , Satriani ... so , listen .... I mean listen , sound dull ? Dont let the radio tell you what to like or listen to . If you are searching for an already decided answer , then I have wasted my time . Then again , what else is time for ?One more fellow I want to mention , Allan Holdsworth . He is the cat that Vai , Satriani , Zakk Wylde , Edward , Toni Iomi and thousands other worship . Hes not on the radio... because its music for people that like music ...especially brilliant guitar ...

honestly, if you want some good guitar rhythms and cool songs check Drake Bell's music out. his older songs are better for the guitar. look on youtube, myspace, limewire for his music. he even teaches how to play one of his songs on the guitar:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pqFHZYLORj0
they have the guitar chords alot of places, im sure.
i might be biased since i love him so much..but check his music out yourself.
-Matchbox Twenty might also be good for a guitarist, dunno i don't play guitar but they are an awesome, classic band..ill give em that.
