October 4, 1957 by the Soviet Union. Sputnik means 'Satellite' in Russian.

SPUTNIK never existed, it was all done in a studio at KGB-TV in 1957. It was so well done that the US hired the producers and staff to stage the 1969 moon landing. You youngsters are so gullible.

Like the moon landings, it was a hoax. No one actually saw this little thing orbiting the Earth.
