I understand that a lot of teenagers get on this site and haven't had time to watch a lot of movies before there time. But, every once in a while, I want to scream "Please watch one or two movies before 1980 before you respond!"
Does anybody else ever feel this way?

I know I'm being catty, but I've been reading "best of sci-fi", "best romance", "best comedies", and "most influential" questions. The answers are just making me feel so old.

Star Wars, Rocky, and the Godfather all came in the seventies.
But let's face it the Eighties were a decade of movie change so i have to admit I don't go back further than that decade to find great movies.

Im 17, and i love all the classics, in music and movies, breakfast club is my personal favorite! oh and 16 candles! so funny!!! i love the foreign kid omy gosh i've seen that movie a million times and it still makes me laugh. i think alot of the older movies and music are alot better then the stuff we have now. music from the 80's was about talent, now the bands are all show no one seems to care about the actual music they just care about how "in" the band is. there are only a few recent bands that i listen to now and they are all by people who are a lot older and are influenced by the 80's. i think some of my all time favorite bands are actually from before the 80's. all in all i'm kinda sad i missed the 80's it seems like it was such a fun period of time. i wasnt born untill the last year of the 80's so i didnt get to enjoy it properly. Anyway i do agree with u in a sense alot of my friends wont even try listening to the music or watching the movies because its supposedly "uncool" but its there own loss, they dont know what they are missing.

The Exorcist (1973)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
The Godfather (1972), The Godfather 2(1974)
Jaws (1975)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

Yes. I am a huge film buff and own a large collective, dating back to the 1920's so I do understand your mindset.
I won't go into a debate about the "timing" of films because we all have our favorites, based on genre, actor, actress, director, etc.
Some of the earliest films ( my opinion ) are classics to me; before color, before tv and phone, especially the internet. I wonder what celebrities from yesterday feel about today and the comparisons and differences in regards to film making.
The part that gets my goat, is when I write about movies and no one knows what the hell I'm talking about, like I am from the dark ages. ( I'm 35 ) ( Not like I care, but when I get a thumbs down for stating my favorites ) Some folks have this notion that the current movies are " it." I see nothing new in todays filmmaking that hasn't been done. I love movies but I love good movies even more. Thank you for reading my answer and allowing me this opportunity to write.

Teenagers live in the moment, so the latest movie they saw was the best movie ever. They will learn when they get older, just as the rest of us did.
