my son was on the good start and it was very hard on his tummy. i switched to the isomil soy when he was about 4 weeks old. his gas went away within days and he was a totally different baby. it was great.

When my daughter was about 4 weeks old we switched from the Nestle DHA & ARA because my doctor thought the iron contecnt may be too high, and that might have been what was causing her gas. I switched to the lowest iron formula I could find, and she was absolutely fine. When she reached 3 months and her digestive system was more mature I switched her back to the Nestle. Although to save a few bucks I use the Enfamil one called A+ which also has the DHA & ARA. I actually use whatever for her and she doesn't seem bothered by it, as long as it has the DHA & ARA. Question for you: why do you need to switch to soy? I ask because I was once advised by a peadiatrician to switch to soy, which i did, with no apparent side affects on my daughter.

You can. However, you might want to try things like Mylicon (over the counter gas drops) first. Because you don't want to keep changing formulas around because then the baby's digestive system will get confused and you'll have a bigger problem than you started with. The other thing is - a five day old that has not had a bowel movement in 24 hours or longer really should be evaluated by the doctor to rule out something bigger than formula intolerance. (Such as a bowel obstruction.)

I swithched from enfamil dhr and ara to similac advanced isomil with iron and my child was fine....she is a little better with the gas. She is 11 weeks. She had no problem switching.....She didn't really care for the similac advanced regular though. I breastfeed also.

Before u switching formula you should ask your Doctor he know better. Specially if your baby had any problem when he was born. Some of the side effects he might get are diaherria/ rash on his body. But i said in the beginning ask your Doctor.

Maybe for like a week he could experience digestive problems, getting use to the new stuff. But Soy is gentler on the tummy...it's not recommended that you switch from soy to milk to soy to milk to soy....so on so forth..
So I would pick one and stick with it.

i asked my dr about this b/c we switched formula too and he said it doesn't matter, it's all pretty much the same stuff. he said we could give the baby enfamil one day, good start the next and similac the next and it shouldn't matter at all.
so, just switch em up and enjoy your new little guy!!! aren't they sooo fun!
take care.

similac is CRAP and very hard on babys tummy. stay with nestle. try nestle soy if you want soy.

he'll probably get constipated and be gassy... anytime you change formula it usually does that.
