If you have a 2005 Chevy and the tranny is already blown, I would be on the phone with GM. Unless you've abused the transmission, it should theoretically last the life of the vehicle with proper maintenance. I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado that had some steering shaft problems, before and after warranty...at about 75,000 miles, and still having problems, I got on the phone with GM corporate and threatened utilizing my "lemon-law" rights. They quickly agreed to warranty all steering components for as long as I owned the vehicle. If you've EVER taken your truck in for service on a transmission problem, GM will have it in your database. This will show proof that there may have been a pre-existing problem with the transmission. I would really push GM to fix the tranny under warranty....even if you're past the warranty miles....if you're considerably over warranty (like 50,000 miles over) than I would push them for some kind of discount.

GM has been extremely customer service oriented lately in attempts to retain business and work on their reputation as a "quality" car manufacturer. This could help you out.

Just a couple of phone calls might save you $1500 bucks...worth a try!!

A GM sarta replacement unit cost around $1600.00, but it has a 3 year warranty. Used ones have a very limited warranty and most often they don`t pay labor to remove it if it fails

around $1500-$2500 if you can find one.

call (615) 833-3399. ask for Alex (that's me) and I can use our national junkyard database to search all the junkyards and see who has on and how much it is. Call tues., wed., or thurs. between 3:00pm and 5:00pm central time. Or call other times and ask for Anna and tell her to look it up. Say you're Alex's friend. She'll probably do it.
