How can we be smart enough to get out of this war when there are still people answering this question that think the Iraq war was about terrorist attacks around the globe.
Iraq is a sovereign nation that had no ties to the terrorist attacks on 9-11 or others listed in answer to this question.
Until we have the truth to why this war was started, we may not know how or when we will be getting out of it.

Good question. I think it actually has something to do with the fact that whenever we try to move Iraq forward, those fanatical extremist Muslims try to rip us apart and drive us out when we're trying to help the people...
And besides that, it's a pretty big conflict over there, and it needs to move along a bit more before we can really decide what to do with this new republic over there in the Middle East.

Go back to school, if you have ever been to school.
It's "Iraq", not "irag".
World War II lasted six years. The Iraq War has been going on for less than four years.

The war was won. Saddam is out of power. The Iraqis elected a government. We have a law and order problem.
Iran and other terrorist entities are sending in reinforcements. They have to be energized with the defeat of Republicans.

We're being careful not to inflict more civilian casualties than is neccessary.
If we had flattened some key cities in the beginning without remorse...this may have ended along time ago.
But we are worried people of the world may get upset.
And heaven forbid we do that.

no goals in sight, ever. No changes in strategy. Stubborn to change. Acting unilaterally even when the country was dead-set against it.
