not yet, but it probably will be when somebody comes up with another term. At first it was polite to say ***** then it was colored, then african american, then people of color, now black. It keeps changing. Personally, I try not to even refer to a person's color, because unless you're giving a description to the police, what difference does it make? We're all "colored" people, white, beige, tan, brown, black, red, yellow, even green (olive complexion)

Being called a ***** is not exactly offensive just out dated. Being called black is more contemporary but African American is more progressive.

The Jury is out on that subject.

True, we do not want to offend anyone. I am Caucasian, which means I have White skin. Hispanic people are Typically from Mexico and Central America. Too many countries to Mention here.

Black people, African Americans are from the Race of Negroids...or ******.

NAACP stands for...Nation Association for the Advancement Of Colored People.

So, I would say that Black or African American would do for now.

I hope this answer assists you. Thanks.

***** is not very offensive. It might be slightly dated.

Just because you don't hear a word used on MTV or the mainstream media does not make it offensive.

I don't think it's offensive, but I'm Caucasian (white). I don't think that it is politically correct though. African American is the politically correct term. The best way to not offend "them" is not to refer to them by their race or the color of their skin...try their name to start with. We are all just *people*...all the same.

No, I don't think so. But, I am not black either. I call people white all the time, including myself, doesn't mean I want to offend anyone.

Haven't caught any problems referring to either "blacks" or "whites" in general speech, when speaking of ethnic groupings---FWIW, I'm a middle-aged white female in the Eastern US (and both terms were common and OK in the American Midwest).

Haven't heard very many people refer to themselves as African-Americans or Afro-Americans (boy, that's a 1960s term!) in general use. Don't think "people of color" will ever make it in speech, either----what am I and other white folk, colorless? (g) [Although some people __have__ said I can be transparent....]

If you can't pick up any particular clues, ask....

it depends on the person. i would rather be called black than african-american though. as long as you aren't saying it to make me feel bad or stereotype me, i am fine with it.
