I'm in California and want to make a few bucks taking pictures of surfers while they're surfing and then sell them a cd of all the pictures. Is that ok to do from a legal standpoint?

You probably need a business license to do that, check with your local chamber of commerce. It could end up being more trouble than you bargained for.

Yes, it's legal to do. The problem is to get the surfers to buy the pictures. As long as they are in public you may take pictures of them and sell them. You may not, however, take pictures of them and use the pictures for your sexual fantasy in some states. I didn't know this but it was on the news recently that a man took pictures of women's legs, in public, and when questioned by the police told them he had a leg fetish and used the pictures in his sexual fantasies. The police stated it was against the law for that, but if he was just taking them (not sexual) it was fine. what's the world coming to?

You better check with City Hall to see if you need a vendor's license before you do it. Otherwise you could wind up with a ticket.
