We generally get the raw end of the deal. We are blamed for pretty much everything from every accident on the roads to potholes. We provide a service that a lot of people would be unable to do. EVERYTHING EVERYONE owns spent some time on a truck. Our industry has some bad apples just like all the others, but for the most part we are the most experienced drivers out there. We spend more time in the seat of our truck driving through road and weather conditions which would keep most people off the road, just so 'Little Johnny' can have his Tickle-Me-Elmo or 'Little Tiffany' can have her Barbie for Christmas. We deserve a little more understanding from the general public.

I don't know if and how they are supposed to be treated f a i r l y.
All I know they are the worst ever drivers on ALL European roads ! What some
are doing behind the wheel when they are driving I cant even write I would be censored !
Most are rude and inconsidered and cause an awful lot of accidents !
They overtake each other on 2 lane motorways, called THE RACE OF THE ELEPHANTS , stopping the flow of traffic ,
I am for much more haulage to be taken of roads and put on waterways that cross the whole of Europe and of course the UK too !

truck drivers used to be called the knights of the road, but now with all the new legislation, driving hours and speed governing measures, along with all the road restrictions,ie weight and access,
their jobs have become much more difficult and stressful, and it is all too easy now to make them the scapegoat when anything goes wrong.
also we now have too many foreign truck drivers over here, who just drive the way they want to and do not care about anyone else because it is easy for them to get away with it, and because of them it makes it bad for all truck drivers.

so give our truck drivers a break, they all ready have been given a raw deal.

OK I am a working truck driver HGV 1,,no we are not treated fairly by other road users,,usually car drivers who are on a do or die mission to overtake me,,especially on the Leighton Buzzard road,,then when they do overtake me they give me the finger or make some other stupid remark,,we have to put up with all sorts of crap from other road users,,eg,,cutting us up,,overtaking on the inside and taking up so much space in laybys so we cannot park,,some of you lot out there should spend a day with someone like me and see how frustrating it is to do our job,,so next time you give a driver the finger,,think about the fact that everything you eat, drink and wipe your butt on might be in the back of my trailer and without people like us,,this country would grind to a halt. Due to lack of toilet paper for starters.

over here in the UK, where it's very crowded on our roads, one guy just got a light sentence for hitting a car standing in a queue of traffic at 60mph because he was busy using a mobile phone in the cab. he killed the young lady and caused loads of distress to the rescue services and denied his guilt for 7 months or so. he was treated fairly.

now, over here diesel costs a lot but why shouldn't the true cost of delivering goods be included in the final price to the consumer, no reason i can see. so they have a chance to maintain profit levels if we will accept it in the final price.

i think there are a lot of apologists for the transport industry ( usually truckers wives or girlfriends ) . it's probably no better or worse than any industry. do you think they are treated badly in some way ?

my only gripe is the slow overtaking.the overtaker goeas at say 60 and the over taken goes at 59 and it takes them ages to pass each other while im waiting behinde them.
apart from that they are very good and probably the best drivers on the road

I DONT KNOW ABOUT EVERY WHERE. I LIVE IN KENTUCKY AND THE ONLY PROBLEMS WE HAVE, IS THE TRUCKS GET OVER LOADED AND THE COAL FALLS OFF, HITS THE HIGHWAY AND CHIPS OR BREAKS WINDSHEILDS OR HEADLIGHTS...BUT THATS NOT THE TRUCKERS FAULT. THE CO. WANTS THE LOADER TO MOUND THE LOAD . OBVIOUSLY TO HAUL MORE COAL PER LOAD.
