More people voted democratically to prove a point to the Bush Administration that not everyone in this country thinks like George! Just because one is a Republican doesn't always mean that they are going to vote Republican. Just because you belong to one party of another doesn't mean that you have to agree with everyone in that party. I think it's great that Americans finally stood up for themselves and let the Whitehouse know exactly how we all really feel.

I think any party that sits in power for a long time aquires bad political habits, and people were able to see them almost every day. The Iraq war had a lot of democrats votes, but those conseratives who went democrat were more worried about how comfortable the Republicans had become. Quite a few brazen activities occured that they never answered for because they didn't have to. Remember when Democrats were in power for nearly 20 years? LOTS of bad stuff was going on in the whitehouse, and thats why they got booted. And I believe its going to happen again...and again...and again...and so is the way of our democracy.

Do you remember the Simpsons episode with the two aliens who replaced Clinton and Dole? "Either way you choose we take over your world." And no one would think to vote for an independent candidate, because that would be throwing your vote away.

Both parties cater to the middle at election-time. It's a shame really. I'm glad that the rubber stamp is gone. Some crazy stuff flew when Republicans owned the House and Presidency.

How about simple survival as a free people Grey box head? Most people in the country are finally fed up with totally overbearing and dominating tactics from Washington DC. They are tired of looking over their shoulder to who might see and hear them crictize the current administration. Fact. George W. Bush gets up in the morning, farts, takes a piss, sighs, looks at his fifty plus face and wishes he was twenty again, exactly like me. Why the Hell should I worship him? The fact that Rumsfield resigned the morning after the election says a lot. Maybe now with two party government we can get some sense on getting out of Iraq and going back to fighting the real war.

I truly believe that the majority of Americans are simply tired of this endless war in Iraq (there doesn't seem to be a plan!). It's heartbreaking to open up the newspaper and read that another young soldier has lost his/her life... and here we are sitting around watching Dancing with the Stars. Voting for the Democrats was one small way to take action and have your voice heard.

I don't think the rationale was "punishing" the Republicans. The American people clearly disagree with the direction the Republican-dominated government was taking the nation, and want it to change. The best way to do this is to replace the people in power.

It has, and never will have anything at all to do with "punishing". That's puerile, and infantile thinking. The reason more people voted for Democrats is because they refused, this time, to be sheep, and actually read about the issues.

Had NOTHING to do with punishing anyone ! It's time for a change, and that time has come. We are more in the red than we have ever been in history. We're in a war that can't be won. More people in the world disrespect the US more than they ever have. The list goes on and on.

I think an anti- incumbent sentiment.

That, and the constant scandal and mishandling of the country by having TOO much of one party in power.

America MUST have checks and balances to truly function on all cylinders. The Rep's had TOO much control.
