If you just started taking piano lessons, or you find the piano as being really hard to play, you might want to practice frequently for short periods of time until you see some improvement and feel like your practicing is getting easier. It is important not to "fight" the instrument. If you feel yourself getting frustrated or annoyed, stop and take a break. If you keep going, you'll get just more frustrated and you'll never want to practice. This doesn't mean to stop everytime you mess up though. I would probably reccommend playing for at least 10 minutes at a time 3 times a day. You should aim for 30 minutes a day overall. The more the better, but at least 30 minutes total if you want to see some improvement. The most important part is not to get angry with yourself. Playing the piano is supposed to be fun, not a chore. I hope you do well in your lessons!!

I've been taking piano lessons for over eight years, and I know that sometimes practicing gets so frusterating that you feel like pulling your hair out! It's totaly normal to feel nervios and jittery while playing.
One of the best ways to practice is by trial and error. If you don't make mistakes, there'll be nothing to correct, and you won't learn anything new.
As for how long or often you should practice, that depends how old you are, how serios you are about piano, and how much stuff that needs to be practiced. If you're really serios about piano, then about an hour or more a day is good. However long it takes for you to get your stuff down well, that's how long you should practice.

as a beginner, do not worry about "messing" up. I would be concerned if you DID NOT.
I would recommend that you practice AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, but more is better! You may even want to try an hour (15 minutes 4 times a day)
I also recommend arpegios (sic?) pronounced Are Pedge E O's
(if you are this far along)
most important for you to keep in mind, is that music is for your enjoyment, and if you choose, for others enjoyment.
Do not make big plans for being a stage star, just enjoy the music, and you may find that you enjoy writing more.

The thing to remember is quality not quantity.
In other words if you spend 45 minutes practicing the same music you like and already know as opposed to practicing the harder stuff, then those 45 minutes were wasted.
I generally tell my students 45-60 minutes a day.
You have to practice material that challenges you, begin and end your practice with familiar material and then move to the harder stuff.
And when you practice harder material, start slow and build it up, never rush the process, it will come with time.
Always use a metronome to improve timing and to gradually build up the music up to speed
I find that when we are unsure of material, we get nervous, the better you know the material, the easier it is to play in front of someone.

Hear you in that! I'm in Grade 8 but I screw up badly especially if in practice, I'm alright but in front of the teacher and examiner I screw it all up. From what I always know, be calm and practice everyday. If you are playing for leisure...maybe 2-3 hours a day...but for exams...ermm..for beginners in early Grades...maybe 2-3 hours depending and upper Grade...LOTS OF HOURS OF PRACTICE!!!

Definitely practice everyday. Try different amounts of time and see what you like best. I'd say maybe half an hour to an hour a day.

You should practice every day. It is normal to be nervous. Just let yourself feel the music. that is, if you are dedicated. If not, give it up.
