well here it goes it depends on your model ex, si, ect... and engine aplication there are 3 to 4 differant 1.8L engines that come in your Civic.

so if it is serviceable it is up against the fire wall (metal panel that sepatates the engine compartment from the interior of the car) usualy on the driver side it is fairly easy.

Or it is in the gas tank and you have to go to the dealer or to a real repair shop to have them replace it you might want to have them replace the fuel pump while there in there.

Or you could just call the nearest 'Jiffy Lube' and ask if they can do a "fuel filter service" on your 2000 civic give them the engine size (ex: 1.8L ) , ask them to double check if they say they can and you can't find it under the hood then it is under the car along the fuel lines just like the guy above said. if they say it is non-serviceable it is in the gas tank.

remember it is not worth the $44.99 to have jiffylube replace it, because Honda fuel filters are so easy. but if you have to go to the dealer check with your mechanic first to see if he can do it. it migh be cheaper than the dealer.

On the Honda Civic, the fuel filter is usually located on the driver's frame rail under the master cylinder. These are a pain to replace unless the vehicle is raised on a lift (and even then it is a pain in the @ss). On some of the older Hondas, the fuel filter was located on the passenger side firewall. If your vehicle happens to be old enuff, then this is a pretty easy filter to change.

PS: The new filter will usually come with 2 new copper gaskets that are the same size and a smaller one. Replace the 2 gaskets that are the same and discard the small gasket.

The fuel filters can be almost anywhere that will fit. The engineers don't take in consideration that it is a pain for the mechanic; like me. I'd check the fuel lines that come straight from the gas tank; it will probably be tucked into the frame or a hard to reach area. If not there the filter could also be in the engine compartment probably just before the line goes to the fuel injectors. If not there follow the line from the tank all the way to the engine; it will be there somewhere. And in some types of autos there may even be 2 filters. Just don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure before opening the line.

I think it's in the engine compartment follow the fuel rail from the injectors and see where it goes. If it is in the engine compartment they are generally on the drivers side or against the firewall.
