Yes, they can live without other guppies, but would be happier in a school. You are right, I am going to tell you that cold water fish such as goldfish should not be living with warm water fish.

when I first set up my aquarium, I got two female guppies to get the cycle going. One died after a day, and the other was alone after that for quite some time. I noticed some behaviors, such as swimming rapidly from the top of the tank to the bottom, that seemed to arise out of boredom/loneliness. When I got a second one, she quit those behaviors and seemed much happier. I do suggest you get at least one more female, and two or three more would be great. With those numbers, you could have a male, too, if you wanted.

So if you know that the guppy should not be with cold water fish why did you put it in there? Move the guppy to a tank of its own. It will by fine by itself but it will be more interesting if you have other tropical fish in the tank

Well, gotta be different.... In most livebearer species (Guppies included) in the absence of any available males females can take on the male role for reproduction. Males however do not become female. Do they TRULY become male?... male enough to reproduce if that says anything. The change may not be physically obvious to the casual observer. This happens more among Swordtails (oops!),but it can occur with any of the commonly available livebearers. Helps answer that "How come I have fry in my tank when I haven't had males in my tank for years?" questions doesn't it.

Yes, and by the way, u did know that ALL female guppies r born pregnant, SO before long SHE WON'T B ALONE. she can live with just about any fish, however, u need to b warned that, the bigger ur gold fish get, the more likely the guppy will look like LUNCH.
Good luck tho, and have fun with ur new friends.
