The easiest way to speedup is
Start -- Run -- msconfig --stratup (tab)
Uncheck everything (Disable all)
drag the command view space to locate your antivirus and IMPORTANT software you need and CHECK them. Make sure you won't check more than 2 or 3.
Apply and restart.

Speed up what? If you mean the computer itself then it may be that you need more RAM. With XP you should have at least 512 MB and it is better to have 1024.
If you mean the Internet then again you need the RAM but remember that the computer can't do anything about how much and how fast information is transferred from you to another place. The only possible way you may get better speed is if you have too many programs checking everything that goes in and out. Many of the virus checkers that have all the other checks along with their package will slow down the computer a lot.
Only use what is necessary as security and you will be doing much better.
Be very careful of many of these security programs that are out there. Many will tell you they have stopped all kinds of payware and other items. They sure have done so because it is their programs that sent them out to your computer to prove you need their product. Sure they will deny they do that. If they do not then they have a side company that does for them.

hehe Well, I guess UnderworldDon would be your best bet since he worked at HP for 3 years....but being me I'll put in my 2 cents too lol.
If you defrag it will help... If you have the cash to spend, you could get System Mechanic 6...it does a lot of clean up... Run your Antivirus/spyware programs and you can find stuff online free...go to either filehippo.com or download.com and look up stuff... Ccleaner is good (CrapCleaner) and it's a free program. There's also one you'll have to look up online through a search engine (okay so I'll just give you the link cause it will be easier) for a product called RegScrubXP and that helps with stuff too.
I don't know a lot about computer but my boyfriends plays with this stuff all the time so he gives me the stuff that he's found works the best....and he uses pretty much all freeware stuff. Oh, NOTE: on download.com, once you search for products, where it says licences...make sure you check "free" otherwise you'll run into programs you have to buy.
Anyway, Hope this helps... it's the easiest things I can tell you to do... and here's the link to that RegScrubXP program....http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
Hope you find somethign that works for you out of everybody who replies. Good luck!

You have several options:
1. delete some Unnecessary files
2. add more RAM or upgrade it totally
3. upgrade your Processor to the latest processor.
If you are using an Intel Motherboard upgrade to Intel Core 2 Duo.
If you are using AMD upgrade to AMD Turion 64 X2 or higher
4. Increase your Hard drive storage space
These are basically the things you need to do. If you need specialized advice contact me.
