We had eight great years under Clinton and the last few years under Bush have been really bad. Is the Republican party relevant any more or is it dying a slow death?

I was born in Michigan and it seems that Nafta is not the problem there, but the unions and the lack of good engineering talent.

Also, I don't watch CNN / FOX, etc. Most of my news comes from the internet.

It is America that is dying. You see, yesterday we discovered that we have something terminal.

No.

What we just witnessed, the swinging of the political pendulum, has happened many times in American history, the last time being in 1994 when congress swung to the "Republican Revolution" of Newt Gingrich & Co. & threw out the Dems. This is a normal part of the political process. The republicans had become too corrupt & arrogant, but in time they will be back, leaner & hopefully cleaner; each party gets a turn in power.

Really, there are many people registered as one party who cross & vote for candidates from the other - that's what happened this time, same in 1994, same in 1980 with the Reagan Democrats (Dixiecrats, Yellow Dog Democrats) who elected Ronald Reagan. It's the Anti-incumbant party that swings the pendulum, and every disaffected voter of any affiliation belongs to the Anti-Incumbant party when their vote has the effect of (pardon the pun) cleaning house by throwing the bums out.(whoever the bums of the day happen to be)

Clinton went along for the ride. His policies did very little to improve the economy. And Clinton's wonderful NAFTA policy is now what is causing companies to leave the US for Mexico, dragging American manufacturing down the toilet. I know, I live in Michigan with 7.1% unemployment, where the rest of the country is at 4.4%.

Speaking of the country's condition, is it really that bad, or is it just what CNN tells you.

Write back in 4 years and see where we are.

No, of course not dead. They are such a large minority that they are like one vote short of a majority in the Senate, and they are only a couple dozen short in the House. However, the conservative element in that party has suffered a stinging rebuke from the people. So perhaps they will play better with others, as the saying goes....

Imagine how much better off this country would be it it's own citizens would actually look at the PEOPLE they choose to run it instead of their party!! It's amazing how obsessed so many of us are when we mention the political parties...and one is no better than the other!
