Because despite the dissatisfaction with the GOP, this is still a fairly conservative nation, and only in certain areas are liberals going to be able to win.

The vote on Tuesday was not as much for the Democrats as it was against the current Republicans.

The Democrats were not going to win by putting up liberals in areas like Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, etc. Jim Webb in Virginia may be more conservative than many northeastern Republicans.

The Democrats may have won the majority in Congress, but many of their new members are very far to the right of socialists like Pelosi. They may have bitten off more than they can chew.

It really doesn't matter in the long run which party won this election. There is a power rising in the world that is unified, determined, focused, purposeful, and full of absolutely fearless warriors. Americans, both Republicans and Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals, do not have the spines to deal with this force. The U.S. has truly become a very weak country and will soon be relegated to the scrap heap of history.

The public generally realizes that the current definition of liberal equates to communist and so tend to avoid sending them to Congress. In republics, unless something drastic has happened such as lowered standard of living, the fringe can only get their most dedicated allies to vote for them while centrists, by definition, can receive votes from a large spectrum.

I think honestly the Democratic Party is changing. The centerist left, progressives, have long been the behind the scenes voice, overshadowed by the hard left. Its nice to see I think this side of the more conservative liberal coming forward, it clearly won them the election by being able to fight on the Republicans turf.

Most Americans are neither far right or far left and most, so it seems, decided to vote out the fringe politicians.

Finally, American politics are moving back to the middle where it represents the majority of us.
