Its all down to it being the first of its type. A slim design Icon of modern times. All that nice cold shiny real metal.
I got one of the first few hundred in the UK. It was supplied in an Aluminium Slide open box with a viewing window. The whole thing smacked of quality and craftsmanship. On the functions side, it was nothing special and it sometimes froze, but it pulled everyone away from the all Plastic Bricks that Nokia, Sony, Samsung etc where producing at the time. Every time I got my phone out, everyone wanted a look. I actually got mine about 2 or 3 months before it was generally available as it was a "Limited Addition" at this point.
More than eighteen months after I got mine and six months after I had changed phones, It was still the one to have!. No one else has managed to create a cult item like this in the mobile market, not even Nokia. The RAZR V3 changed the style of most manufacturers phones for the better. Look at most available today and you will see a little RAZR in nearly every one of them.
My Nokia E61 has more than a little tribute to its styling and use of materials.

Motorola RAZR is a thin clamshell camera phone from Motorola.
The phone was initially regarded as an exclusive fashion phone, with a high price of $500 with service agreement and $800 without. However, in 2005 the phone entered the mass-market as a mid-priced phone. As of September 2006, the phone was available in the UK from £70 from Tesco.
The RAZR has been said to be the "iPod" of Mobile Phones. Being the slimmest phone during its release in 2004, it easily stands out amongst other phone models. It has also been one of the most popular mobile phones since its first relese, having been spotted in the hands of celebrities and businessmen alike. The RAZR V3 is also being used by the Dutch Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende. The Monopoly Here and Now edition, launched to celebrate the board game's 70th anniversary in September 2006, included RAZR as a token.
The RAZR also seems to be Sandy Cohen's cellular phone of choice in the popular television show The OC.
So,with unique looks,media popularity,celebs Showing,
MOTO Razr is on Sale like a hot cake.

Advertising! I think that sums it up. And judging by the other answers it sucks. I never had one, I like to be different. I just get a Nokia 6131, it's a flip phone, not as thin as a RAZOR, but not as wide either.
