Using the Pythagoreon Theorem, the diagnonal of the base measures 5 feet (3^2+4^2=5^2). Then when determining the diagonal of the box the same theorem is used, but this time the a and b values are fives (5^2+5^2=50; therefore the length of the diagonal is radical 50 (about 7 feet), less the the eight feet asked for in the question.

Since the box is 3D, you have to find the distance from one top corner to the bottom opposite one, which is the maximum straight distance in the box. When you draw a diagram with this distance you get a triangle, with the height of the box and diagonal of the rectangular base as the height and base of triangle. You are trying to find the hypotenuse of this triangle.
Height of box = 5 ft Diagonal of base = 5 ft (Pythagorean theorem with 3 and 4 as other two sides for the rectangular base)
If you use the Pythagorean theorem again with the two sides of 5 feet, the hypotenuse of the triangle is around 7.07 feet, which is smaller than 8. So a 8 foot stick won't fit in the box.

A^2 + B^2 = C^2 A diagonal of the backside of the container: sqrt( (3 * 3) + (4 * 4) ) = 5 A diagonal for the complete container makes use of the backside diagonal as one leg and the top through fact the different leg of a 2d Pythagoran equation: sqrt( (5 * 5) + (5 * 5) ) = sqrt(50) 8 * 8 = sixty 4 sixty 4 < 50 8 foot stick can't in good shape into the container except you alter the form of the stick andor container.

No.
The longest stick that would fit into the box would be along the box's diagonal. The length of the diagonal is 5*(sqrt(2)), not 8.

No, the box is not high or wide enough to encompass the stick in it's full length.

But if you cut the stick in half it would fit.
