You should DEFINITELY join! I have been swimming for a long time but i have also done other sports too. Swimming is definitely the hardest. You will have to work hard but don't even worry about your times compared to other people. You can't compare yourself to people who have been swimming longer than you. You should join your team and then focus on improving for yourself and work on beating your own times instead of other people's. It doesn't matter what other people are doing, just focus on improving for yourself.

I started swimming when I was 13 and I'm pretty slow, but I still joined the swim team and had a blast. My team didn't have time requirements and you didn't have to be fast at all. There were also other swimmers as slow if not slower than me. So, yes I think you should join the team. You will make a lot of friends and have fun and it will also help you improve as a swimmer.

I also joined a swim team, and i have to break it to you, it's a pretty intense workout. There are really no time requirements, as long as you keep on improving within every competition and you know how to swim every style. It would clearly help if you can swim a freestyle 50m under 50 seconds. When i joined i swam it in 52 seconds and into my second month, i did 48......It just takes lots of practise and time on your part but the results are going to be worth the work. Always have some confidance within yourself and don't push yourself too hard.....you're going to end up getting sick (believe me i did). By the way, 50 sec is not fast whatsoever....i know people that started one year before me and can swim it in 35 seconds. Work hard and don't give up!
Good luck!

Here is my advice. If you want to swim, do it. My oldest son is 9 years old and this is his first year with our local swim club. He is not a very strong swimmer, but he is very determined. His little brother, who is 8, has been swimming for two years now and he was not very strong last year either, but he stuck with it and in just one year as imporved tremedously. My older son has seen the improvement that his brother made and wants to do the same. If my little boy can do, so can you.
Unless the team itself has time requirements, there shouldn't be any. There are of course times that you are required to beat if you want to go to championship meets and what not. Swimming is such a fun sport that is so good for you. It will give you a wonderful sense of achievement when you finally get through those first rough practices and actually finish your first race. I say go for it if that is what you want to do.
I personally started with the same club that my kids now swim for when I was 11, but i swam with girls who didn't start until they were in high school. Nobody ever cared how fast they were, just that they were part of the team and did their very best and finished the race.
Best wishes in your decision.

You should join. Swimming is a really great sport. I'm on a team. My mom made me join a team at first and I was mad and did not want to get up at 6 in the morning during my summer vacation. But I found out I had talent in this sport and I became a part of a team.

well when i was in the seventh grade[last year] i joined the swim team and i had never done competive swimming. but it was good because as the year went on i was one of the best swimmers on the team.when you join they will teach you the strokes and how to breath so you will go faster.you do not have to be really fast to get on a swim team you just have to know how to swim.

Join, it will change your life. don't worry about being fast. nobody is fast when they first start. but i'm not sure about the time standards, i haven't heard of a team that has them, but they could exist. i started when i was 12, i was very slow, but i kept working and got faster. so just practice and have fun, and remember, practice makes habit.
