upset victory in Virginia, giving the party complete domination of Capitol Hill for the first time since 1994.
Jim Webb's squeaker win over incumbent Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record) gave Democrats their 51st seat in the Senate, an astonishing turnabout at the hands of voters unhappy with Republican scandal and unabated violence in Iraq. Allen was the sixth Republican incumbent senator defeated in Tuesday's elections.
The Senate had teetered at 50 Democrats, 49 Republicans for most of Wednesday, with Virginia hanging in the balance. Webb's victory ended Republican hopes of eking out a 50-50 split, with Vice President Dick Cheney wielding tie-breaking authority.
The Associated Press contacted election officials in all 134 localities where voting occurred, obtaining updated numbers Wednesday. About half the localities said they had completed their postelection canvassing and nearly all had counted outstanding absentees. www.cnn.com

for all of you who say terrorist will bomb our country and we are not safe just bought into the Bush hype and still won't believe. Do you actually think we are safer with so many hating us have you for gotten Osama Bin Laden the one who did kill many of our fellow Americans is still loose out there thanks to Bushs redirection of focus onto Iraq Bin Laden has killed once and may attempt to do so again because he sees we don't care enough to continue our persuit of him but will go after a lesser enemy to make things look good and to scare people

Lets see if they accomplish anything more than what they had done when people got tired of them back in 1994? Of course as the minority they had managed to hold up or stop a lot of Bush appointments, then there are always those hearings and investigations (sort of like pots calling the kettles black) as everyone grooms themselves for a 2008 White House run. Now it's put up or shut up time, let's see how long they can keep from cranking out more regulations and taxes, two years is an awful long time to pretend they are "moderates".

I am not a Democrat, but lets hope that the shift in power
(both houses) will force Bush to bring our troops home from Iraq.

So okay, we bring the troops home and the terrorists claim victory. Then they come over here are start bombing our schools, churches, malls and stadiums. Then we can spend all of our money on thousands of funerals for our friends and families and cleaning up all the mess. When the minimum wage goes up, so goes the price of EVERYTHING. When your taxes start going up to pay more welfare to dirtbags and illegal aliens, your disposable income goes down. So .... prices go up, income goes down - what a way to run a country ... may God bless us all.

Now it is time to execute this incredible plan for change. The Democratic party now has 2 years to get it right, so this performance will dictate 2008.
success/failure will win/lose the White House.

So let me guess, when another 9/11 happens again because the Democrats are willing to ignore it just like they did before, you will blame the republicans for that just like you do everything else.

Yippee, but please don't screw this up. I think that Americans are ready to see a new driver at the helm but will not be patient when it comes to results.
You asked for it, you've got it--now run with it and no excuses.
Impeaching George may be a possibility?

Repbulicans won VA except for one race. I am proud that VA kept our republicans. I weep for the commie tree huggin hippies that voted the snake oil salesman into office in other states. Because of this, I hope the country don't turn to **** as it did when they were the majority. They did nothing even with a Dem in the whitehouse. All Dems care about are there own overblown ego and nothing else.
