I have had 3 children before the one I am currently carrying. With my last 2 children I also tested abnormal. I had to go and sit through the 3 hour test while fasting. Yuck. But with both of those the second test came back fine and I didn't have diabetes. I am not far enough along with this one but I hope I don't have to sit through the long test this time. Good luck. It could be a mistake. Don't get to worried.

Don't fear gestational diabetes. I had it with my daughter. I controlled it with my diet. If you find you can't control it with your diet you may have to take insulin. Regardless the outcomes of GD if not taken care of is your baby could be born too big, like 11lbs or more or that you may have too much amniotic fluid. IF it turns out you do have GD your OB will monitor you closely and you'll probably have Non-Stress Tests done every week after 34 weeks to monitor your baby. Don't stress too much about it because it's not good for you or your baby. Any concerns or questions you have can easily be handled by your OB, just don't be afraid to ask. Gestational Diabetes is pretty common. One thing they will tell you is if you have it, you may be at risk to have diabetes later in life, so if you live an unhealthy lifestyle, you may want to make changes. The worst part of it for me, was having to give up ice cream and hot fudge, because that's what I craved when I was pregnant.

Hello! My test came back abnormally high but i didn't end up having Diabetes. They said at least it wasn't high enough to classify it as that. Don't worry though if you might happen to have diabetes there are ways of controlling it. The Dr's may just refer you to a nutritionist to help you get on a healthier diet. The Dr's may also monitor you closely now to make sure the baby doesn't get too big because usually women who develop diabetes have larger babies.

Most people who have an abnormal result on the one hour do NOT have diabetes, but some do. One way to guess is how abnormal your result is, like if it's just slightly above normal you're more likely to be fine than if it was super high (unless you ate before you came in or something), but to find out for sure you'll have to do the three hour. Ugh.

It happened to me. I was super healthy throughout my pregnancy, I ate well, exercised, and only gained 28 pounds (my baby was almost 9 pounds!), and still my screening came back abnormal. I did the three hour test (which sucks by the way), and it came out negative. So don't worry, its probably nothing.

I am due this Sunday and I failed my first test. They made me go back and take a three hour test in which I past, I don't have it. Don't worry about it. Gestational Diabetes is very common and I believe it only affects you while you are pregnant. Just follow your doctors orders and you will be fine.

On the 1st test they did on me I was abnormal also. They retested me by doing a fasting sugar test & it came back normal. I believe the reason the 1st test was abnormal is b/c I had ate pancakes for breakfest b/c they didn't tell me I was taking the test.

I go for mine in a month and with my first son it came back normal. My cousin had gestational diabetes with both her pregnancies though and she was perfectly fine after giving birth. All she had to do for the remainder of her pregnancy was walk alot and eat healthy-no fatty or fast foods and certain other food restrictions.her girls were both born perfectly healthy so even if you do have it you will be just fine!

this test often comes back wrong, ask for another one, make sure you don't eat or drink anything! if it comes back abnormal again its okay you just have to go on a special diet and check you blood sugar. it happens to lots of women.
