They are mutual. When we are truly happy, we make others happy and as a result we feel happy.

I am sure we cannot make others happy if we are unhappy ourself. We will have all the time only to set it right. When the self is happy, we can see the pain in others life. We feel blessed for our joy and try to do something to make the other happy.

The cycle goes on!

Once you make people happy, you yourself would feel happy too. But if you speak of importance of course you have to be happy yourself to be able to make others happy. If you are an unhappy person do you think you can make others happy? Everything starts from within and you have to take care of yourself first to be able to take care of others. Thus it is more important being happy yourself.

I'd have to say that I can only feel true happiness when I see that the ones I love are happy. I really can't explain... It's like Christmas... you spend all of your savings to get everyone a gift, and even if you get nothing for yourself, you are excited and desperate to see what is under the tree for everyone... That is how I feel for everyone I love, just on an everyday basis...

Well, I like to be happy but sometimes other people's happiness is what makes me happy. I absolutely love to make someone else happy. I've alway been the peacekeeper in my family of four sisters, being the oldest, I noticed if they were happy they werent getting into mischief, so I used to invent ways of keeping them that way!

I think its about equally important to be happy with yourself and make others happy. I think to be happy with one's self can affect how happy you make others. Good question

I think that perhaps happiness is overrated. It's only skin deep, so to speak. What does it mean to say t ghat you are happy? Does it mean that you are content with yourself. Can an immoral person be as happy as, or happier than, a moral person. For instance, a rapist can be happy that her does what he does. A child can be happy with getting away with a bad deed. Happiness is superficial and passing. Perhaps we should be speaking being joyous and what we can do to be joyful.

Both are equally important. I can't be happy if I see someone sad or distressed. If I can make other's happy, then I am happy and that makes everyone equally happy - so it all works out.
So...Don't worry, be happy :)

In order to give happiness to others you must be happy yourself. How will you make others happy if you don't know how to be one?
