not the only one, but i do feel motivated to maintain the life i'm acostomed to, which, in part, is an obligation.

I am highly unmotivated by obligation. HIGHLY unmotivated! I am motivated by phenomena which is free of obligation. Case in point: I am not motivated to cook Christmas dinner this year, because if I don't, no one else will. But I am motivated to donate the cost of that dinner, to a family who doesn't have enough money to eat any day, much less on Christmas Day (not an obligation).

Not all obligations need to be on level with unwanted chores. For example, spending time with my kids. I have an obligation to them as a father to spend time with them, but rather than look at it in a negative light like many fathers do, I look at it as something to look forward to. So in that respect, yes, it is a motivation.
But let us be clear: Obligation = motivation ONLY when you give yourself no other option.

One time I was holding my breath to try and impress a girl and I actually passed out. She had to call 911 and I was in the ER for awhile. She ummm...she wasn't impressed.

Yes and it annoys me because I know I'm worth more than that and so is my life. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express that.
