do people in America think that once they turn 18, they could do whatever the heck the want?

I especially HATE those spoiled brats that get new cars when they turn 16. At 18, what makes you think you are so grown up that you're above the younger teens? after all you're still a teen.

I hear you. I know the types you're talking about. It's youthful arrogance and feeling of invincibility. I'm going to be 18 next month, and I don't think I can do whatever I want because I'm not naturally arrogant and I have common sense, thanks to my mother.

I believe the infatuation with turning 18 has to do with all the things you can suddenly do that you couldn't before..i.e. (1) Vote. (2) Join the military. (3) Buy cigarettes in most states. (4) Considered a legal adult in majority of states. This does not mean they are not still a "teen", but legally-wise they have adult privileges. This being said you are also tried as an adult at 18. There is no "get out of jail" free card anymore. I do not think that this places them above anyone under 18. That being said it does not mean that a 21 year old is any better than an 18 year old. The older you are the more you can do. That's just the way it works. Maturity comes with experience and age, not only age.

It's just the fact that you are legally an adult so some kids when they turn 18 they think they can do whatever because by law they are adults and they can move out and live on their own which is what they've been dreaming about for years. It's really stupid but its just the way some people think.
And about those 16 year olds who get cars, I'm sick of it too! I'm boycotting that stupid show My Super Sweet 16. It sickens me how spoiled teenagers are today.

I experienced that when I was going to school. All the rich kids got new cars..... 18 yr olds can do alot of things but they can't drink or gamble. They are pretty much considered an adult here unfortunately.... spoiled or not.

18 gives them Independence from their parent. The can move out if they want. Yes 18 gives them freedoms that any other adult in this country has minus, drinking 21 for that. Gee they can even vote. 18 is the pentacle for being an adult.

I think most people think when they turn 18 you can do what you want (in a sense). At 18 you are legally grown

>.< i know this may sound jealous, but i cant stand how some parents will give their kids brand new models of sports cars when they turn like....16 or 18. they just learned to drive, and half the time they're so reckless. i know i was when i first got my license.
