Determine whether the graphs of the equations are perpendicular, parallel, or neither. How do you know?
1. y=6.4x + 8.9
5y-32x=5

2. 1/2x +3/4y =6
-3/2y + y=4

3. 2x + 6y= -3
12y=4x + 20

Identify the slope of each line and compare the values.
If the slopes are the same then they are parallel.
If the slopes give a value of -1 when multiplied together, then they are perpendicular.
If the slopes differ from that about, then they are neither.

Bring the y value to a unit value of one.
(1) Slope 6∙4 and 6∙4, so it's parallel.
(2) Slope ½ and ? , second equation is unclear.
The slopes are probably 3/2 and -3/2, if so, then they are perpendicular.
(3) Slope -1/3 and 1/3, so the lines are perpendicular.

1. 5y - 32x = 5
5y = 5 + 32x
y = 1 + 6.4x

y = 6.4 + 8.9

they both have same slope therefore they are parallel.

2. (you put 2 y's on on equation so it won't work)

3. 2x + 6y = -3
6y = -3 -2x
y = -1/2 - 1/3x

12y = 4x + 20
y = 1/3x + 1.66

neither because the slopes arent the same so it cant be parallel, and the slopes arent reciprocals.

1. y=6.4x + 8.9 slope=6.4
5y-32x=5 slope=32/5=6.4
parallel because slopes are equal

2. 1/2x +3/4y =6 slope=-(1/2)/(3/4)=-1(1/2)(4/3)=-2/3
-3/2y + y=4 slope=???
I think there is a typo my guess is that it should be -(3/2)x
in that case slope=3/2
perpindicular because the slopes are negative recipricals.

3. 2x + 6y= -3 slope=-1/3
12y=4x + 20 slope=4/12=1/3
neither slope1=-slope 2. not equal, not negative recipricals.

you set it up in y=mx+b
if they have the same slope(m) they are parralel
if they have the oppisite slopes(3/4 would be-4/3) perpendicular
and if ther not then neither
