The best thing you can do is have good, new content. If you just have the same content that everyone else has, no one will go to your site.

Pretend that you want to find the information on your page. Let's say you have an article called "Apple Eating Instructions". Someone looking for this page might type into a search engine "how to eat an apple", so you should try to use that phrase on your website.

The poster above said "maybe websites isn't the thing for you" -- I say no way. I made websites for years with no visitors, but I stuck to it and I've had one thousand + visitors a day at times!

You will get more traffic if your web site is listed higher on search engines. For this to happen there are many things that you can do.

One of them is that your site has to be linked from many other sites! Start submitting your link to other sites..

Also dont forget to include some meta tags in your html header with some description and good keywords for your website.

Something else which is very important is that your site should be standards compliant and without errors. To check this try to validate your web site on the following url http://validator.w3.org/

Also avoid the use of proprietary technologies such as flash, which is not indexed well by search engines.

Good luck!

I used to do this professionally. The biggest key is not only being on the search engines, but getting hits on your keywords. To do this, you have to have great copy. A good source for search engine optimization techniques with regards to copy is: http://www.highrankings.com/.

Things to keep in mind:
-Sites that link to your website come into play in the rankings.
-Copy should not be too long nor too short
-You want to have your keywords repeat several times without appearing to be bot like.
-Keywords that appear in the META tags should also appear in your copy.
