Looks like a commercial board... I saw it mostly in california (for example on hwy 101 and hwy 1)... Is it a way to promote some roads???

Thanks for helping a frenchman.

PS : why do you pass cars on the right on freeways... it's a bit upseting when you come from Europe!

adopt a highway is a program where a group (normally a group) of people offer to clean up the roadside on a regular basis. The state or county provides trash bags and the group of people go out and collect the trash and then leave the bags along side the road for collection. Normally these bags are color coded...maybe blue or orange...never red as red is biohazard bags.

the reason people pass on the right...they are just in a hurry and rude...no good explanation for this.

the adopt a highway signs are a volunteer thing to get the garbage picked up along the roads. whoever wants to do it gets their name or business put on the sign for that stretch of road. we only pass cars on the right because they won't move over where they should be.

An organization agrees to Adopt a section of road by cleaning garbage etc several times a year.

If you are getting passed on the right you are driving too damn slow.

It's a sponsorship of sorts. To clean the trash up and keep the sides of the highway looking nice.

Over here, people pass on the median strip! Takes some getting used to, I know,. Hope you enjoyed yourself here. :)

its a way of getting people to help keep a certain part of the highway clean and free of trash, once a week or month you can go down a stretch of highway and help keep it clean by picking up trash or litter from the high way,,good luck.

You basically agree to help pick up trash and maintain portions of the road. For this you get a little sign with your name on it.

P.S. I thought it was the British and Japanese who drove on the wrong side of the road...

It just means that these people adopted that road, keep in clean and help pay for a little, and in return get a sign and their name up. J'aime francais!! Je suis Francaise Deux a mon lycee.

it usually means a group or organization has volunteered to keep that area clean of litter and debris.and by the way we don't like it when cars pass on the right either, but once you pass you should return to the right to allow faster traffic to pass.
