• Make sure the name of your band isn't taken and your name is interesting.

• Target places where people who would be interested in your music might hang out and sell copies or if you can afford it, give out limited samples with a couple of songs.

• See if there is a local radio station that does a 'locals only' spotlight and send in your music. After you sent it and they play it asked everyone you know to call and request it.

• Organize a free all ages show in a safe enviroment and perform (e.g. skateboard park, coffee house, street corner, etc.)

• Get an email list of people who like your music and send them updates regularly.

• Make promotional items with your band name -stickers, beer cozies, matches, etc. Give a few out when you perform.

Good luck to you!

As many record labels know, the key to selling a product to a wholesaler, distributor or other retail outlet is getting the product first heard on radio. The problem most independent labels and new artists run into is not being able to get the music exposed to the public, or by getting it played over the radio stations. One of the most important things a label must understand is, all radio stations do not play new product, and will not until it has made the national charts. Sound Cloud continues to be a terrific location for music promotion. Taking advantage of Sound Cloud’s growing community of music lovers should be a strategic practice of all musicians, big and small. Sharing tracks, creating sets, and interacting with other users are all essential parts of good Sound Cloud promotion.

I would say, the first step is to go to CDBaby.com and get your album on iTunes. You can also get physical copies of your album with CDBaby's replication service. If you have a mailing list and a Twitter following, promote your album there. If you don't have a mailing list yet, start a YouTube channel and post new songs and videos on a weekly basis. Also get your own blog and post there on a regular basis. This will bring you a lot of visitors, listeners and traffic. Use opt-in forms / subscription forms to get the email address of your visitors and listeners to build a huge mailing list. Then start sending out emails and place your iTunes link in your mails with a little sales pitch. Also place your iTunes link in the description of your YouTube videos. This will get you a lot of exposure and sales. You can learn more about this stuff from people like Bob-Baker.com or websites like MusicThinkTank.com. Also a great advanced training to learn music marketing is http://www.musicmarketingmastery.com/get-it. I hope this helped.

Put up flyers and posters, ask local record stores if they would put up a display or sell the cds up front, have a cd release show (sell the cds at a discount at the concert, or something similar), make sure fans know the album is coming via email lists, myspace, purevolume, etc., anything else creative you can think of/
