For your information, I used "Sygate Firewall". They are no longer in business. So I removed an installed, http://www.zonealarm.com Their free home for personal use version.

Found zonealarm, has far better technology and updates daily if needed. Plus you will always be told on an auto., basis when they have a new free version available to install. You don't have to remove the old version as the new one will remove for you.

By the way the use of "limewire", is P2P and that only helps to infect your pc with trojans or other viruses.

A couple of quick things:
1. Sygate was acquired by Symantec. If you product hasn't been updated in a while, you may want to start at their site.
2. You won't be able to prevent people from scanning your TCP ports unless you conceal your machine behind a firewall or other device (such as a router or access point) that provides NAT (network address translation) functionality. That device will then be subject to those same scans.

Either way, the Sygate software (or anything similar, like the ZoneAlarm desktop firewall) is designed to prevent your system from providing response information to the scanner that might be interesting enough for them to pursue further.

Also, if one program (like Sygate) is preventing you from downloading another program (like Limewire), disable it. You'll open yourself up to a barrage of garbage on your machine, but that is your choice.

The scanning messages are not something to get alarmed about - Sygate is telling you that it is blocking them. You can turn off the auto alerting for those messages in the program settings.

As for Limewire downloading, you might need to check the Limewire help to find out whether you need to open specific ports via the firewall software to allow incoming and/or outgoing transmissions.
