Puff the Magic Dragon. The part where Jackie Paper stops visiting his lifelong friend always makes me feel sad.
Another is Maggie May by Rod Stewart. It tells the story of a younger man becoming obsessed with an older woman and was written from Stewart's own personal experiences. The success of the song launched Rod Stewart's solo career.

Snoopy got it right, Christmas shoes. I am tearing up just thinking about it. Although my understanding was his mom was already dead, and the young child had saved his money for the shoes she had wanted so long, he wanted her to be buried in them.
