I have worked one year at a country club as the Fitness Director and Personal Trainer. I have been successfully training clients for about 5 years. I have had people use inches (and even feet) with my help, many great compliments (and gifts), and recently started a 3rd class (a hybrid of yoga and pilates) because so many people requested it. And I am very enthusiastic about fitness and my job.
I guess I feel insecure because, at my new place of employment, I am the only choice for a trainer. Also, I have a couple of clients that travel back and forth to Miami (I am in Kentucky), well, one in particular, that I can tell thinks everything in FL is better. She makes comments how her husband had a great trainer in FL(I train him here - he has seen great results and seems to enjoy working with me), and how she takes great classes in Florida.
I guess some insecurity is good because I am continually creating new, exciting workouts.
Thanks for any help - I guess I vented a little :)

Venting is always okay!
I guess I could try to answer any "questions" I found in your question :)

Write down a list of your accomplishments, may it be any awards you've recieved, the names of the clients you've helped, or even just the fact you've been hired. Photocopy your list, and put it on your fridge, in your glove box, or just in your pocket to look at whenever you're feeling insecure. Take a deep breath and think about how much you love your job. I know from experience that clients love someone who loves their job- so remember that they're here because they love YOU as their personal trainer. Otherwise they'd drive somewhere else to get fit!
Good Luck! You sound to me like you're on the right track! :)

It's not you - it's your client. She is the one who is insecure. She may think you are the best trainer in the world, but needs to put you down because of her insecurity. Coincidentally, her statements touch on things you feel insecure about.

Don't let her get you down. Keep your head up. If you weren't any good, your company wouldn't keep you on staff as the only trainer and your clients wouldn't see the results you help them achieve.

Next time she blathers on about her wonderful Fla. trainer, tell her how great it is they found someone there and how you'd like to touch base with that trainer to make sure you're both working toward the same goal for her and her husband. Once she sees how she's not getting to you, she may stop.

Just believe in yourself and the achievements you have made, and be proud of the fact you are creating new and innovative ways to keep your clients interested (and yourself from being bored).

I have found that anyone who feels the need to speak out continually about their own accomplishments is masking their own insecurities and this is a way for them to feel better.

Do not listen to any negativity or take any of the comments personally. As I said, believe in YOU and be thankful you enjoy what you do and you are obviously very good at what you do.

Dont worry. A lot of country club people feel "superior", especially to the "help". Also, south Floridians are usually rich people from the Northeast U.S.
