there is a two-way street involved in this question.....the taller, the more mass; the shorter, the less mass......so why do tall people run faster? because they have longer legs and their strides are bigger; however, tall people have more mass and therefore usually weigh more and that slows them down. Like in everything there is a happy medium which would be the fastest.
For the sake of the question, taller people will tend to run faster because of their longer legs and longer strides

The best idea, expecially if it's for a science project, is to actually do an experiment and see who's faster. However, I believe tall people generally run faster because they have longer legs.

Have you ever seen a short person with long legs? Not, so tall people would run faster.

your teacher must be PRETTY dumb to have you do a project like this. nonetheless i'll help you.

on a 100 foot dash:
short person against a tall person/
tall person wins_ why? tall people have long legs. long legs=more area to cover

on the matter of who actually runs FASTER:
short person_why? to keep up with the speed of a tall person, a short person must put on more speed on their short legs.

It actually depends on the momentum of how fast the person goes. There isn't exactly a real answer. But it's almost positvie theres a small percentage of taller people that run faster.

So run how? Cross country will have longer more slender proportions, for endurence. Sprinters will have a little shorter legs for better leverage, but are very heavily muscled, for acceleration.
