I have learned through experience that if you get the boots wet and put your feet in them it helps to stretch the leather just enough to make them not rub on the sides and backof your feet as bad.

Boy does that question bring back army memories. Jamie R is right on target. What I did was put lots of paper sheets in the heel of the boot. It helped quite a bit.
All the sore heels from the new boots during the first weeks of military training was probably why it was called 'Boot Camp'.

I'm going through the same problem. Pad the affected area, with bandaids, and wear them at first for about an hour. Gradually increase the wearing time, until you cna wear them without the soreness.
