An Artist’s Role in His Society
_____?_____In the Baltimore Evening Sun article “The Artist,” H.L. Mencken states, “an artist of any dignity is against his country,” meaning that artists must always create provoking art. Yes, it is true that some art questions society but not all art is that way. Some artists do oppose their country; however, it is the love for his country that motivates the artist to point out its wrongs. Not only is opposition of his country the reason an artist makes art, but he also creates art to praise it. Artists create art for both reasons: to oppose his country and to glorify it.

Excellent point of view. Shows both sides and doesn't show just the negative aspects of art and resistance to government. But shows that a love and respect of your government is what makes people stand up and be counted by speaking out to save their country from mistakes. Excellent!
