I need to know what number neon was

Not sure you can get an exact ranking, because three were researched simultaneously:

Helium was discovered on Earth in 1895 by Scottish chemist Sir William Ramsay, though some credit the discovery of helium (in the sun's spectrum) to Janssen and Lockyear in 1868. Ramsay discovered most of the remaining noble gases--argon in 1894 (with Lord Rayleigh) and krypton, neon, and xenon in 1898 (with Morris M. Travers). Radon was discovered in 1898 by Fredrich Ernst Dorn.

Look at the noble gas column in the periodic chart, for most elements they were discovered top to bottom.

That means the top element in the noble gas column was likely discovered first, and then on down the line.

Find what number neon is and that should tell you.

Number 1 was discovered first

Number 2 was discovered secondly

Not too sure about number 3

but I know number 4 was discovered fourthly
