You should be able to tell the reader why you chose Maya Angelou - we shouldn't have to answer that question for you!

Why don't you go on line and research Maya Angelou? Read about her and some of her work. Read some of her children's poetry and some of her work for adults. Read an excerpt from I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS.

Then decide why you chose her.

Better get busy!

Gloria M, you are one funny lady. You're the only person in the whole world who knows why you chose Maya Angelou. So you're the only one who can possibly explain why you did it. Have you googled up her bio? That might help a bit.

Maya went through quite a lot of drama when she was growing up. She was raped, moved around a lot, didn't speak for a year after her rape but she still got through it to become an amazing woman of character who is respected and loved. You could say you admire her strength of character and her creativity to put her pain and love and other emotions into her poems and books. Just try to be honest. Good luck ; ).
P.S. Wikipedia is a good start point if you need to know more about her, don;t use it as a reference/source, some teachers don't like it.

Maya is an incredibly insightful woman and an advocate for civil rights, her writing, both poetry and literature crosses generational and racial boundaries. I remember watching Sesame street with my kids and seeing this incredibly well spoken woman for the first time and noting to myself, "this woman will be famous", not realizing she already was ;)

Why did you choose her? We can't answer that question for you. What do you think of her? Have you read any of her writings? What did you think of them?

Those are the things you should be talking about in your little paper. But we can't give you your opinions.
