With half the citizens of this great country in disagreement with the other half, how can any President govern effectively? Could we dissolve into an anarchy?

always that fear of civil war again. but as for disagreements, every country has them. can't make everybody happy. always the discontents. but this country has too much to offer, for it to break up. too many checks and balances.

Most Democrats are going farther to the left toward liberalism, Republicans staying conservative on the right.
Most states disapprove gay marriage and benefits of unmarried partners EXCEPT for Arizona. The landslide decision in South Dakota considering abortion shot down, "too extreme" they said. Guess killing unborn babies is getting morally right for liberals.
Most liberals voted for "change" but, since the Democrats didn't directly mention their plan, don't complain when your pocketbook will have a little less in a couple ears. Tax increases are the Dems way of balancing the budget.
This next couple years will go down as the next path choice of America for the next twenty years. Political parties will determine if America will fly like an eagle or go down as the largest paper tiger in the history of the world.
If anyone remembers history, America was "neutral" at the beginning of both World Wars. Both presidents at this time I believe were Democrats, and FDR wasn't criticized for not acting to save the Jews being slaughtered by Hitler. Avoiding the precision of war directly got it involved when the country ill prepared itself for any possible attack.
Democrats want peace, as does America, but at what cost? Nancy Pulosi disrespected the President and his position. Kerry's gaffe is his direct hatred for the Republican party and the military, even after he served in Vietnam. Sen Durbin (Ill.) referred to the military as Nazis. Governor Jim Doyle (Wisc.) is embroiled in scandals and corruption, yet, the people voted a second term for him.
Bottom line:
Half of the nation voted for "what can you do for me, you can do whatever as long as it doesn't affect me negatively," vs. morally will govern this nation. Bipartisan differences has created an abyss that may never come close to closing. The nation suffered civil war in the 1860's, it may head in that direction socially and politically soon. When disrespect for authority regardless of difference comes to the surface, no solution can be created.

Just hatred and pride.

Worse case scenario, civil war. Tolerance is the only way to move forward, until power corrupts and you get another strong message from the people.

BTW people didn't divided in this election they united.

I don't think it's quite that bad, really. Come on! It isn't like things that are going on in Mexico. Before that happens we will most certainly know it, as a nation, that things are bad.
