I do all sorts to make it last as long as two years. If it looks like it's going to blow a gale, taking out an umbrella is a waste of time. After a while, the cloth starts to come off the webbing so I stitch it back on through those little loops on the ends; I also spray it with waterproof solution to stop the leaks. However, the tight sheath for putting it in has come apart so I wrap it in a plastic bag . I begin to wonder if it's really worth further repairs after that happened.

Every 4 or 5 years (when I lose it).
Buy a good quality one. I normally pay £40-£50 for a small one that fits in a back pack and that will withstand strong wind.
There is a very good umbrella shop close to the British Museum in Oxford Street (after Totenham Court Road tube station going East).

As often as needed. Whenever it is worn out. Nothing worse than trying to open a bad umbrella in a rain storm. How about having two. Always keep one in your car in case of sudden storms.

Whenever I lose one. Haven't needed one for the past 18 months though, in the middle of a drought. AND....I buy a new one when the old one breaks - check out the new "gust buster" umbrellas that allow the wind to pass through - They are great! I have had one for 2 winters

i tend to buy one when i go out and it rains- i go into the nearest shop and get the cheapest one i can.
but do you think i can find it 2 days later?
i swear i buy at least 10 every winter, cos i can never find 'em.
There must be a land of missing things somewhere- filled with odd socks, gloves, hats, baby dummies, and my bloody umbrellas.

I can't stand umbrellas and have never brought one for myself. I'd rather get a wet head and have both hands free then get arm ache from holding up an umbrella all day.

I think perhaps you should invest in a chamber pot...or maybe a working toilet, rather than urinating out your window. I assume since you have a doorman, you also have a toilet in your apartment, so stop acting like a 3 year old and use it.

pretty well every time one of my grandkids borrows mine, because they tend to play with them and break them. however, if you want to stop buying them, just go to your local bus line and say that you forgot yours on thebus and just take any black one there. they are prety much all the same now anyway.
