Yes you are in the early stages. It happend to me. I was getting cramping down there and I stated bleeding. I freeked and went to the hospital. They gave me a stress test and all was well, but I was scared. They sent me home. For the next few days it kept happning and as time went on the pain got worse and worse. I was 3cm when I went to the hospital. They sent me home and told me it wasnt time. I went 4 days at home wit these contractions it was miserable. I couldnt sleep or walk I tryed breathing it sucked. I went to the hospital to get theraputic rest and they checked me before helping me go to sleep. I was 6cm when they checked me. They didnt send me home that time. 12 hours later I was pushing!!!! Good luck to you. I hope the pain dont last as long as mine did!

If your pain goes from your back to your belly and then your belly contracts all together you might be having early labour...
The tightening are contractions... It depends on if your contractions have been consistent for the last few days or whether they are just coming when they feel like it....
With my first son I got menstrual type cramping pain and they only got more severe and at that point I was in labour... I had passed some of the plug two days prior and when I went into labour it lasted 43 longgg and tiring hours but he came out eventually...
If the contractions get closer together, like every 5-7 minutes, are consistent and your contractions get much stronger and this is happening for more then one hour I would suggest you go to the hospital because that is all the signs that you are about to have your baby...
You are almost full term so that is good...
I am waiting for mine to come as well... Good Luck girl ...

i wished i could have seen 36 weeks when i was pregnant with my son. my son came a month and a half early. more then likely you are either going through false labor or you body is getting ready for the real labor. you need to call your doctor right away and make an appointment as soon as possible. good luck to you and i hope everything works out and that you have a happy healthly baby.

sounds like pre labor to me... you are probably just beginning to dilate and get ready for labor. Don't be surpised if the next time you go to the doctor you are several centimeters dilated... the same thing happend to me and I'm 3 cm 70% effaced (only a week ago I was 1cm and 30%) Hang in there, it won't be too long now.

Your body is practicing for the labor its called braxton hicks contractions and the only differene between those and the real ones is that the real one are not going to stop.

After sometime, one of those cramps will be the beginning of your actuall labor. So make sure that whrn you have these cramps that there is someone you can trust around you.
