When I was in high school, I remember a kid did this piece for a forensics contest. Not sure that it would really be considered 'funny'. It's a futuristic story of an automated house that doesn't realize that all the people have died in a nuclear war or something. The house just keeps on going through the daily routines. Kind of scary actually........the date in the story is the year 2026. Any way, you can check it out, here's the link:

Try looking at the book If Life Is a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits? by Erma Bombeck. She's very funny, very clever and witty. I don't know if that would fall into the speech category, but I'm sure there are parts of the book that would work well. Anything by Erma Bombeck is really good, if you can't find that one. Good luck!

Robert Service, I think, wrote the Ballad of Sam Magee. One of the funniest poems I have ever read. Try it.
